The "Prepared Environment"
In order to learn, the whole learning environment—room, materials and social climate—must be supportive of the learner. Montessori classrooms are spacious, bright, and free of clutter. This encourages movement, interaction with others, and focus. Montessori classrooms are usually divided into four areas that develop the main areas in our curriculum: mathematics, language, practical life, and sensorial development. Each area has very specific materials that respond to the developmental stage of children, reinforces acquired skills, and challenges students without stressing them.
