The Montessori Classroom
The typical Montessori classroom has a range of ages in the same environment. This is a unique opportunity for all children because the younger children are exposed to and learn from the more challenging activities of their old classmates. The bigger children—or the more developed in a certain area—are encouraged to assist and teach their younger classmates. This interaction among children becomes a very positive experience for both the child who teaches—who feels proud of himself/herself by adopting a leadership position—and the child who is learning—as the learning takes place without pressure and at his/her own pace.
