Dr. Montessori’s observations of the kinds of activities that children enjoy and go back to repeatedly led her to design a number of multisensory, sequential, and self-correcting materials that facilitate the learning of skills and lead to learning of abstract ideas. Montessori materials might look like toys but every interaction with them provides a learning experience for children and young adults. They are designed to involve as many senses as possible. For example, letters and numbers are presented through graphic and textured elements so that students use their eyesight and tactile sensorial capabilities.
